Human BioSystems (OTC: HBSC), developer of preservation platforms for organs and other biomaterials, is devloping the technology and equipment that may allow blood centers and hospitals to recover more than $500 million in lost revenue annually in North America, Western Europe and Japan. The Company is actively engaged in researching and developing unique methods and technologies to preserve platelets for extended periods, while intending to market a platelet preservation system that is safe, practical and cost effective. Human BioSystems recently announced that it has been approved for its fifth patent by the USPTO. The company has under development the technology to extend preservation times for donor organs. If further development efforts prove successful, it should increase the shelf life of organs from a few hours to days, and possibly years, while maintaining viability, quality and safety. In recent news for the company, HBS has also formed a subsidiary, HBS BioEnergy, to expand its business to include the production of ethanol in order to take advantage of the strong opportunities in the alternative fuel market.
