Peace Arch Entertainment Group, Inc. (pae)
Entertainment & Leisure
- Product Pipeline: In the film industry, because film projects can take months or even years to develop and bring to the screen, it is critical for film production companies to foster a pipeline of projects that can continue to feed the company's revenues. Peace Arch has put eleven new films and one mini-series into production since 2006, well above the previous year's rate of production, suggesting that the company could very well see a strong increase over the current Trailing Twelve Month (ttm) revenues of $9.35 million.
- Surging Sector: The global movies and entertainment sector grew by 6.7% in 2004 to reach a value of $129.3 billion, and is forecast to reach a value of $173 billion by 2009, an increase of 33.9% from 2004 (Source: Datamonitor). Through its January 2006 acquisition of KaBOOM! Entertainment, Peace Arch has greatly strengthened its Home Entertainment division. This is a critical element of the company's future success, since home video, with a 44.6% share, is the leading aspect of the global movies and entertainment sector.
- Perceptible Progress: Peace Arch already has an impressive library of independent films under its belt, including "Watching the Detectives" with Lucy Liu and Cillian Murphy, "Chapter 27" with Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan, "Shadows in the Sun" with Harvey Keitel, "Our Fathers" with Christopher Plummer, Brian Dennehy and Ted Danson, and "The Good Shepherd" with Christian Slater and Stephen Rea. The company has solidified its position with the acquisition of KaBOOM! Entertainment, the centerpiece of its Home Entertainment division. In addition, Peace Arch recently reached an agreement to acquire the 500+ film library of Castle Hill Productions, and continues to cultivate partnerships with industry players like the Showtime network.
- Federal Support: Based in Canada, Peach Arch Entertainment is able to take advantage Canadian tax laws that grant favorable tax credits to English language film and television producers in Canada. In 2003 and 2004, Peace Arch claimed refundable federal tax credits of approximately $3 million each year. This is part of a continuing commitment by the Canadian government, attested by the fact that the Canadian federal government expenditure on films and video reached $1.6 billion in 2002 (Source: Statistics Canada), and Peace Arch stands to benefit from this governmental largesse.
